5 Scriptures for a Broken Heart

Heartbreak is an all-too-familiar experience in life. Whether it’s the end of a cherished relationship, the loss of a loved one, or any other form of emotional pain, it can feel like a storm tearing through your soul. I remember moments of feeling total loss. But it was in those moments that God spoke to me so clearly and showed me how to find joy in the midst of pain. Through the scriptures, God healed my heart and helped me to grow stronger in faith to ease and eventually remove the pain of the trials I lived through. And I believe He will do the same for you.

“The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit.”

Psalm 34:18 NKJV

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Matthew 11:28 NKJV

“He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds.”

Psalm 147:3 NKJV

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, And with my song I will praise Him.”

Psalm 28:7 NKJV

“casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”

1 Peter 5:7 NKJV

Know that the Lord is close to those who are broken-hearted. Regardless of the source of the emotional trauma, God says that He will save those who have a contrite spirit. In each of these scriptures, the main key is coming to God with your broken heart, knowing that He will heal it. Sometimes we can get caught up with the trial or trauma that we've encountered because it just seems so big, but always remember that our God is bigger. The only way to get over the pain is to go through it. Lean into the trauma, knowing that Jesus is the source of your comfort.

Do as I say, not as I do!

Oooooh man. I may step on a few toes with this one! How many of us grew up hearing those words? And if we didn't explicitly hear those words, did it feel like the actions of our parents/leaders/elders
